WHEATLAND BEEF
YOU MAY HAVE QUESTIONS
HOW MANY CATTLE WILL BE PROCESSED EACH DAY?
The plant is being designed to process 100 head of cattle per day. Five days per week.

HOW MANY STAFF WILL BE WORKING AT THE PLANT ONCE OPERATIONAL?
The Creekstone Abattoir will create around 40 full time jobs for Albertans. We want to train and hire Albertans. The plant will use state of the art equipment requiring technically skilled labour. That’s why we are working towards cooperating with meat cutting programs at multiple colleges and universities in the province to provide skills training opportunities for Albertans to learn and work at our plant. Hopefully this will be of interest to our local students which will provide jobs for them at home.
WHAT IS THE PLANT GOING TO LOOK LIKE?
The design will be similar to the other facilities of comparable size. The Plant will be approximately 33,000 sq. ft. including a small barn to house the cattle. The Abattoir site will be approximately 19.86 acres and have a building footprint of .75 acres.

WILL I BE ABLE TO SMELL IT FROM MY PROPERTY?
There will be no noticeable odor from the plant. This is a requirement from the Alberta Environment & Parks approval process. We will be closely following their guidelines regarding any odor mitigation and design a process to monitor and record any possible problems.
Currently there are three other "similar sized" plants in Fort Macleod, Lacombe, and Wetaskawin. These plants have had no odor issues over the many years of operation. An abattoir is a highly regulated industry by both the Federal and Provincial governments so the plant will be closely monitored at all times during operations.
WHAT ABOUT THE NOISE?
There will only be approximately 8-10 trucks per day (includes delivery of animals and removal of waste) coming from or going to the facility so the noise will be minimal. The property is located on a truck route so it is a relatively busy route at any time. We will also be planting trees around the site to minimize any possible noise. A Traffic Impact Assessment has been completed and a Roadside Development permit has been received from Alberta Transportation.

WHOSE WATER ARE YOU USING?
The project will draw from Western Irrigation District’s water system, not our local water table. We will have two ponds, one lined pond that stores water going into the plant and one lined and covered pond for waste water that we will recycle and spray irrigate on our adjacent farm land after it has been properly treated.
